So...I have had an earth shattering revalation in the last two weeks.
The question I was pondering, is, what separates the successful from the unsuccessful? After many days of pondering, I came to this conclusion. A professional works hard at their craft EVERY day, whether they want to or not, whether sick, in a bad mood, a professional never calls in. They make no excuses, not for anything. Additionally, a professional has a clear, concise, vivid vision of where their hard work will take them. That's it.
Sure, there's random luck. Yes, there are people less talented than you making a lot more money doing the same thing worse than you do it, and you are making nothing. However, these, seem to be the exceptions. The one singular common thread I could find among people who are successful in anything is their clear vision driving them to work hard every day at their craft, until it pops. Essentially, the universe will come to recognize the hard work you have put in, and success will follow. I also believe that the universe recognizes what I call "pretend" professionals. Yes, they might work harder than your average Joe. Maybe they even have a dream they are following. But even among these people, success seems elusive. It's because they are half assing it. It's the guy who has been "writing a screenplay" for the last 3 years. It's painter who takes a class at a community college but then goes home and watches sitcoms. And so on. Well, I too have been one of those people. It's fine to just have art as a hobby-that's great. But too often people claim it as their passion, their profession, their dream, etc, and become all of the aforementioned pretend professionals.
Well, my days of this are over. From this day forward, every day I will be dedicated to the art I love. Acting, first and foremost, but also writing, drawing, and just being creative. I don't know about you, but this sounds like a much more fulfilling way to spend my days on the planet.
Any comments? More than welcome, even if they are to the contrary of what I said. Thanks for reading!
